Dr. Catherine Sarkisian recognized as “Distinguished Professor in Geriatrics” during 2014 SGIM Annual Meeting.
April 24, 2014
San Diego, CA—The Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) 37th Annual Meeting held in San Diego, CA awarded Dr. Catherine Sarkisian the Distinguished Professor in Geriatrics award. This is one of the highest recognitions that SGIM bestows upon faculty in honor of their hard work and dedication in the field of Medicine-Geriatrics. Each year, SGIM selects a Distinguished Professor among those who are General Internists and/or Geriatricians with nationally recognized expertise in education, research, and/or clinical care related to the care of older adults.
Dr. Catherine Sarkisian is a Professor at the David Geffen UCLA School of Medicine, Staff Physician at the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System, and Director of the Los Angeles Community-Academic Partnership for Research in Aging (L.A. CAPRA) Center. She is a geriatrician and research scientist focused on community-engaged projects to improve the quality of life of lower income and minority seniors with a proven track record conducting meaningful impactful research for older adults since 1997. She has published extensively on the topic of “age-expectations,” specifically the extent to which older adults regard age-associated physical and cognitive decline to be a normal part of aging. Dr. Sarkisian is a committed research mentor to several fellows and junior faculty, and is an active member of the American Geriatrics Society, where she served on the Research Committee. We are proud to share this news that Dr. Sarkisian is the 2014 recipient of this distinguished award. Congratulations Dr. Sarkisian.
